This exciting Exploration tour combining bush, beach and forest is a fantastic tour around the highlights of southern Malawi’s three most contrasting destinations, Liwonde National Park, Lake Malawi National Park and the Zomba Plateau.
The Malawi safari expertly combines wildlife, culture, history and scenery. About 800 kilometres will be covered in total while exploring the wilderness and mountainous beauty of the Zomba Plateau followed by viewing some of the wildlife species of Liwonde National Park on foot, by boat and vehicle. At Liwonde, hippopotamus sightings are a guaranteed daily occurrence!! The Zomba Plateau is the centre for the tobacco and dairy farms of the area and with their markets loud and colourful; literally anything can be bought or bartered for here! Activities in the area are focussed on the forested areas of the Plateau offering you varied options such as mountain biking, hiking to gorgeous waterfalls and lakes, bird watching, horse-riding, trout fishing and rock climbing.
Your Malawi safari ends with 3 days relaxing (with various activities for the more energetic!) at the sensational and crystal clear waters of the eco-friendly Mumbo Island in Lake Malawi National Park. Lake Malawi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest fresh water lake in the southern hemisphere and home to nearly 1000 fish species of which many are endemic!
The drives on endless and exciting dirt roads between the various destinations are a revelation, providing ample opportunities to meet the friendliest people in Africa!
